Separated shear flows are encountered in a large variety of engineering devices and environmental flows. Such flows have a significant effect on the performance of, eg. heat exchangers, turbine blades, airfoils, road vehicles and microelectronics circuit boards. The simulation and prediction of such flows is currently investigated using Computaional Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

 Objectives

To investigate the charateristics of the flow and the convective heat transfer for a "prototype" separated flows (blunt plate at high reynolds number), using large-eddy simulation techniques

2-D Unsteady flows over a blunt plate at Re = 1,000
